Since the last update we have achieved a few important milestones.

  • Web hosting has now been purchased and pluxel.co.uk has be moved to it.
  • The aggregator is now functional and able to be deployed on our sites with ease.
  • We have built a framework of ideas for the development of the site itself.
  • We have clarified our business plan.
  • We have designed our logo.

IDAT205 – Pluxel-Connect

I am working on a feature so that on each of our personal sites there is a button that opens an element displaying pluxel related content.
It must:

  • Do this only with a single lump of code that is easily added to the team’s pages
  • Work on all of our sites and be compatible with most browsers
  • Load and parse content from various sources efficiently
  • Fail gracefully if one or more sources of information are unavailable
  • Present information in an elegant way
  • Robust and reliable

Another element I may be work on is a portfolio page system.

IDAT205 – Pluxel Design

Simon Batty, Tom Saunders, Scott Addelsee and I have formed Pluxel Design as part of this project. Our group has a mixed skill set which puts our collaboration in a good position to do well.

The name pluxel is a corruption of pixel and Plymouth. After lengthy discussion the name was chosen because it is short, stands out, was available to register as a domain and relatively easy to deal with in terms of SEO. ‘Design’ can be appended to the end in order to describe our purpose. Various accounts have been set up, including twitter, as outputs for our content and to protect the brand. We have registered the domain name pluxel.co.uk which now points to a temporary location on my own server used for development for the sake of SEO.

The general purpose of the site is to produce websites primarily for small businesses and organisations at competitive rates as well as showcasing relevant digital art projects undertaken by the team. Selected content will be aggregated from the team in addition to content generated specifically for Pluxel Design to ensure high and consistent quality, demonstrating our collective skills. I have taken on the role of project manager.
